5/30/2006 12:20:00 pm|W|P|Tim Young|W|P| So how far do you have to go to find good music? This 'local' podcast might just answer that tricky question. I never got to mention how much I liked that 8+ feature. If you do a similar theme for 18+, I want to submit an 18 minute song.

Just kidding.5/31/2006 08:16:00 am|W|P|Blogger Simone|W|P|That's Four Tet, not Fortet, but I'm not fussy about things like that.

Have to say the sons and daughters song annoys me a bit though. They're clearly talented, and have lots of potential (seen them live a few times), but that songs the biggest ripoff of Nick Cave's Tupelo i've ever heard.5/31/2006 06:07:00 pm|W|P|Blogger Amy|W|P|Wow--the most eclectic mix yet! I haven't heard them in such a long time. God how I missed this song and didn't even know it...

Anyway, thanks a lot to both of you for yet another masterfull show.

Keep at it, please!5/23/2006 10:17:00 pm|W|P|Blogger Jamie Summers|W|P|oooh lovely. absolutely classic pick from the roses and tremendous pick from van the man. have to say i've always been a bit annoyed with green day for so shamelessly ripping off the melody from summer of 69 on that track. personally i would have picked one of these:

neil young - like a hurricane (live from live rust)
neil young - down by the river
springsteen - jungleland
television - marquee moon
mansun - six (or another track from that album)
pulp - sheffield sex city
patti smith - birdland
bang bang machine - geek love
or something from metal box.

good choices from everyone and another great contrast.5/23/2006 10:35:00 pm|W|P|Blogger Jarrod|W|P|Springsteen-Jungleland is one of my favorite songs (my Born To Run vinyl is much more worn on side B accordingly; I should buy it on CD and stop wearing down my vinyl). I would have picked it for this one if I had submitted anything.

On that note, Tim, I'm wondering, will you accept submissions from bloggers who don't have an mp3 blog, but do love music (e.g. me)?5/23/2006 11:16:00 pm|W|P|Blogger Jamie Summers|W|P|i think he should, although there's no excuse for not having your own blog. do your music obsessive duty and start one up! join the fight for a better sounding world!5/23/2006 11:35:00 pm|W|P|Blogger Jarrod|W|P|You're missing one point. I do have a blog (http://jaberwockynmt.livejournal.com/ ), but it is generally political/personal and rarely do I post about music.5/24/2006 08:17:00 am|W|P|Blogger Tim Young|W|P|Jarrod,

Yes. I'm happy to accept contributions from almost anyone. We have had a musician contribute in the past and we just linked to his myspace, so why not someone else who just has a blog?

Tim5/24/2006 01:29:00 pm|W|P|Blogger cchang|W|P|Athough it might be interesting to have a podcast on political rants interspersed with politically themed music, Jarrod. Just pondering.

Gay cruise ship??? LOL. Oh dear...I personally was wondering how far off-shore are seagulls willing to fly and if peppermint schnapps tasted okay after a gin martini.

Definitely one of my favorites CPs so far.5/24/2006 02:40:00 pm|W|P|Blogger Jamie Summers|W|P|the politic thing sounds like a good idea to me. but then the tensions that may arise may drive our happy family apart...is it worth the risk?5/24/2006 02:59:00 pm|W|P|Blogger Tim Young|W|P|... I think the guy would be just saying why he liked a particular song .. I'd hope he wouldn't introduce any politics. There is no place here for that unless you are discussing which is better, guitar solos or drum solos ... anywho ... for the record peppermint scnapps tastes disgusting at any time, especially after gin. It does however leave you with nice fresh breath. :)5/24/2006 04:08:00 pm|W|P|Blogger Jarrod|W|P|I wasn't planning on submitting politically motivated things. I might have something for 009, but the band broke up, their website is down, and I don't know if I can find their CD, so I may not be able to.5/24/2006 05:30:00 pm|W|P|Blogger SAS Radio|W|P|I like the politics thing - and if there are differences it would be quite in keeping of the theme of Contrast5/25/2006 09:51:00 am|W|P|Blogger Jamie Summers|W|P|mm and it's not like it would be that vicious, as we wouldn't know if anybody held views that were completely offensive to our own until we actually heard the completed cast.

it would be contrast politics #2 where the real battles would begin (joke).

i expect tim could think of some sort of amusing frank capra courthouse style intro too..5/26/2006 04:44:00 pm|W|P|Blogger Tim Young|W|P|nice one jamie .. There's another thing into hidden tracks: most of them aren't generally available on mp3's or in digital versions of the CD's (if you're going to buy them on iTunes and stuff like that), which makes them more "rare" to be listened, commented and appreciated... Like... did you _ever_ heard an hidden track on a radio show or a podcast?5/31/2006 05:38:00 am|W|P|Anonymous Anonymous|W|P|it could have used fascination street by the cure

When you hear the bits you love make sure that you send some of that love onto the bands that have made it ... and remember it's the bits that you don't love quite so much that add that special 'contrast' flavour and we'd be nothing without them. As you may or may not be aware this podcast continues last week's theme 'the best of 2006 so far' and contains lots of new treats for your ears to nibble on. They're so unique and interesting each time. Great stuff. I'm listening to the Blondie track right now. I really loved the Beruit track (thanks Dan) and definitely will invest some CDs of his.

I'm not sure why people bother saying that they don't like everything. It sure would be a boring world if we all liked the same music. Frankly, a lot of stuff I don't particularly like at first grows on me.

Anyhow, excellent podcast! Always looking forward the next one.5/18/2006 04:13:00 pm|W|P|Blogger SAS Radio|W|P|Excellent choices everyone. Made my bus journey much more interesting. I worked out today that sitting on the top deck, on the front seats, furthest away from the noisy bus engine, is the quietest place on the bus for you to enjoy music. That is unless you have large canned headphones. Oh how I envy people who have the balls to wear large headphones without feeling a smither of embarrasment.

I particulary enjoyed The Guillemots and will check them out further. Cheers!5/11/2006 10:49:00 am|W|P|Blogger SAS Radio|W|P|Nick - ear canal headphones.
